Professional-Grade Aluminum Downspout Straps

These aluminum downspout straps are engineered to permanently eliminate gutter rattling, vibrating, and tapping caused by wind. By drawing the downspout flush against the wall, the straps remove the air gap that allows movement during storms. Available in three sizes to fit all standard residential and commercial downspout profiles — 2x3-inch or 3-inch round, 3x4-inch or 4-inch round, and 4x5-inch — and in 25+ powder-coated colors to match any existing gutter system throughout the Portland metro area and nationally.

Constructed from .027-inch-thick aluminum with a powder-coated finish, these straps resist corrosion, UV fading, and temperature cycling. Unlike plastic holders or thin galvanized bands that fail within a few seasons, the aluminum construction maintains clamping force for decades. The pre-drilled mounting holes accept standard #10 wood screws, toggle bolts, or masonry anchors depending on your wall substrate.

Sold in 10-packs for residential projects and 100-packs for contractors and property managers. Space straps every 3–4 feet for standard conditions, or every 2–3 feet in high-wind zones. Compatible with both K-style and corrugated round downspouts across all three size families. GutterAll stocks over 838,000 units across all variants for immediate availability.

Installation Guide

Follow these steps for a secure, noise-free installation. Installation requires working at height — use a stable ladder, have a spotter, and follow all applicable ladder safety guidelines.

  1. Determine strap positions — mark every 3–4 feet along the downspout from top to bottom (every 2–3 feet in high-wind areas).
  2. Hold the strap around the downspout and flush against the wall; use a level to confirm the downspout is plumb before marking.
  3. Mark the two mounting hole locations on the wall through the strap's pre-drilled holes.
  4. Drill pilot holes appropriate for your wall material (wood, vinyl, brick, stucco).
  5. Insert anchors if required for your wall substrate, then drive the fasteners through the strap holes.
  6. Confirm the strap is snug against both the downspout and wall — it should not dent the downspout profile.
  7. Repeat at all marked positions along the full length of the downspout.
  8. Test by gently pushing the downspout — there should be zero lateral movement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I stop my gutters from making noise when it's windy?

Install heavy-duty downspout straps every 3–4 feet along each downspout. The straps draw the downspout flush against the wall, eliminating the air gap that causes vibration and rattling. For severe noise, reduce spacing to 2–3 feet and confirm all gutter hangers are tight.

Why is my gutter downspout vibrating in wind?

A small gap between the downspout and wall allows the downspout to oscillate when wind blows past it. This is most common when existing straps have loosened or were never installed. Properly spaced aluminum straps eliminate the gap and prevent movement entirely.

What size downspout straps do I need?

Match strap size to your downspout profile: 2x3-inch straps for 2x3-inch K-style or 3-inch round downspouts; 3x4-inch straps for 3x4-inch K-style or 4-inch round downspouts; 4x5-inch straps for commercial 4x5-inch K-style downspouts. Measure width and height of the downspout before ordering.

How many straps do I need?

At standard 3–4 foot spacing, a 20-foot downspout requires 5–7 straps. A 10-foot single-story downspout needs 3–4 straps. For high-wind zones, plan for one strap every 2–3 feet. Add 10–15% for corners and adjustments — the 10-pack provides enough for most residential downspouts.

Can I match the color of my existing gutters?

Yes. With 25+ powder-coated colors including every major gutter color family — whites, browns, grays, bronzes, specialty finishes like Herringbone, Linen, Galvalume Plus, and Copper — you can achieve a seamless match. Contact sales@gutterall.com for color samples.

What is the difference between the 10-pack and 100-pack?

The 10-pack (from $2.59) is designed for residential homeowners replacing or adding straps to 1–2 downspouts. The 100-pack (from $59.99) is the contractor option — it covers approximately 10 downspouts at standard spacing and reduces the per-unit cost substantially. Both contain the same .027-inch aluminum straps.

Are these straps compatible with K-style and round downspouts?

Yes. The 2x3-inch strap fits both 2x3-inch rectangular K-style and 3-inch round corrugated downspouts. The 3x4-inch strap fits both 3x4-inch rectangular K-style and 4-inch round corrugated downspouts. Choose based on your downspout's size, not its shape.
