What Is a Double Offset Connector?

A double offset connector — sometimes called a double A offset or S-offset — uses two 30-degree bends to move the downspout away from the wall and then return it to run parallel with the building surface. Unlike a single offset that leaves the pipe angled, the double offset restores a vertical run after clearing the obstacle.

This design maintains the full 4" round diameter through both bends, ensuring unrestricted water flow even during heavy rain events. The result is a clean, professional appearance and zero debris accumulation risk at the transition point.

Common Applications

Brick Ledges Clear decorative brick courses and rowlock caps without cutting masonry
HVAC Equipment Route around condensers, heat pump units, and utility boxes
Window Sills Navigate protruding sill profiles and decorative trim without damage
Architectural Details Clear columns, pilasters, corbels, and decorative molding profiles
Utility Meters Route past gas meters, electrical panels, and water shutoffs
Foundation Steps Clear raised foundation walls and step-down transitions

Installation Guide

  1. Measure the obstacle: Determine the distance the downspout must clear — the connector handles 2–5 inches of offset.
  2. Cut the downspout: Using aviation snips, cut the vertical downspout at the point where the obstacle begins.
  3. Dry-fit the connector: Slide the upper end of the connector onto the cut downspout end and confirm the lower end clears the obstacle.
  4. Secure the upper joint: Apply gutter sealant inside the joint and fasten with two #8 hex-head screws on opposing sides.
  5. Continue the run: Attach a standard 4" round downspout section to the lower end of the connector, sealing and securing as above.
  6. Test with water: Run water from the gutter outlet and check all joints for leaks before finishing.

Safety note: Work at height requires OSHA-approved fall protection for any task 6 feet or higher. Professional installation recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a double offset downspout connector?

A double offset connector uses two angled sections to create an S-curve that moves the downspout away from the wall to clear an obstacle, then returns it to run parallel with the building — maintaining full 4" diameter flow throughout.

What obstacles can the 4" double offset handle?

The connector handles 2–5" of clearance, making it ideal for brick ledges, window sills, HVAC condensers, utility meters, decorative molding, and any architectural protrusion that blocks a straight downspout run.

What downspouts does this connector fit?

It fits standard 4-inch round aluminum downspouts. The slip-fit end slides over or into a standard 4" round pipe section for a secure, watertight connection.

Can I trim the connector to adjust the offset?

Minor trimming of the straight end sections is possible with aviation snips. Cutting the angled offset sections themselves is not recommended as it will alter the clearance geometry.
